ABOUT THE AUTHOR
JoAn Dewey Criddle helped sponsor Teeda and her extended family's emigration to
America in 1979-1980. For the past sixteen years she has been a consultant, lecturer, author,
popular speaker, and advocate for cross-cultural understanding. Criddle, the mother of five,
grew up in northern Utah and now lives in Dixon, California, with her husband, a long-time
UC-Davis professor.
Bamboo & Butterflies: From Refugee to Citizen, Criddle's second book about Teeda and her relatives, continues the family's incredible odyssey. It recounts their first ten years in America as they journey From Refugee to Citizen – a poignant, often humorous glimpse into what it is like to start from scratch in an alien land.
